We are a design-build firm in Athens GA. We believe that innovative contemporary design can support and encourage community sustainability
ABOUT
Us
The principles, Carl Martin and Carol John, trained as artist/designers in New York City through the 1980's at the School of Visual Arts and various apprenticeships there. D.O.C. Unlimited was incorporated in 1993 in Georgia. The past projects have included residential opportunities from gut renovations to meticulous restorations as well as a broad range of commercial projects including restaurants, retail, apartments, public courtyards, site development and landscaping.
Some of our more recent projects have been the most interesting in terms of developing the ideas of community sustainability. They include the design for the rehab of a 30,000 sq. ft. industrial building in Athens to a mixed use development of restaurant/retail/ office condominiums, a downtown rehab of a 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse to an art house movie theater/cafe/restaurant, and 40 live/work units on 2.5 acres near downtown designed around the theme of minimum footprints to maximize a large green space.
Design Platform
The design process is always collaborative. The dialogue for design is driven by the primary goals the project is hoping to achieve. The dialogue is an organic series of unfolding revelations of information which direct the flow of concentration, and ultimately, define the scope of work. The platform of that dialogue is created by the directions (project requirements and aesthetics) brought to the table by the client, and by the ideology of all the participants.
